The Addition and Subtraction Facts

Add to Subtract is a multisensory program to teach  the concept and memorization of the basic addition and subtraction facts to 18.  The program is divided into two classes:  The Addition and Subtraction Facts to 9 Class and The Addition and Subtraction Facts 10-18 Class.  Students are given an explicit strategy to help them develop an understanding of the relationship between the operations of addition and subtraction.  Mastery of the addition facts makes mastery of the subtraction facts efficient and easier to comprehend than many tradtiional ways of teaching the addition and subtraction facts.  Students learn to make meaningful visual, auditory and tactile associations of pictures, colors, shapes and position within a picture, with the math facts. The classes are interactive and include a variety of games and activities to reinforce the facts.

The Addition and Subtraction Facts to 9

The Addition and Subtraction Facts to 9 class covers the adding and subtracting facts through the sums to 9 (i.e. 5+4, 6+3, 7+2) and the related subtraction facts (i.e. 9-5, 9-3, 9-7).

This is a 9-weeks class that meets for two hours each week.

The Addition and Subtraction Facts 10-18

The Addition and Subtraction Facts 10-18 class, the second of the two-class addition and subtraction program, covers the adding and subtracting facts with the sums through 18 (i.e. 6+4,7+5,8+7) and the related subtraction (i.e. 10-6,12-7,15-8) facts. For students to be proficient with the addition and subtraction facts, it is necessary for them to complete the program by taking both The Fact to 9 and The Facts 10-18 classes.  Without the tools to master The Facts 10-18 students will have no other choice other than to resort to counting. Most students learn to count when they are 5 years old or younger.  It is now time to learn the operations of addition and subtraction rather than use any form of counting method (i.e. fingers, number lines, count in their head) to get the answers. Students who took The Facts to 9 class spent 18 hours in class and time at home learning to substitute counting by using their brains and the tools they learned in class to master the math facts. Give your child the opportunity to master the remainder of the addition and subtraction facts by taking The Addition and Subtraction Facts 10-18 class to complete the program.

This is a 12-week class that meets for two hours each week.
